Environmental Science came in existence since the inception of the university (Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, established in 1991 by M.P. Act 9 ) as a separate Institute. In the later phase, during the restructuring of the University, it merge in faculty of Science and Environment as a separate department and renamed as Energy & Environment in 2008.
Department is conducting a Two year M.Sc. course in Environmental Science, which is designed to meet the national and international requirements of Environmental Monitoring, Management, EIA, Hazards and Risk assessment. This course bridges the gap between Science & Technology and provide extensive training to the students for getting jobs in Universities, Colleges, Industries, Ministries, Judiciary, Research organizations, Multinational companies, Administration and NGO’s etc.
Ph.D. Programme in Environmental Science & Technology discipline is also available. Besides M.Sc. course and Ph. D. Programme the department is dedicated for the Water Conservation Programme of the University. Recently the department has started Rain Water Harvesting, Ground water targeting, GIS based rural resource planning etc. Artificial Ground Water Recharging and Extensive Training Programme for the rural folk with the help of Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India.
